The establishment of the Office of the Clerk and the
appointment of the Clerk of the Court are done in accordance with 4 V.I. Code
Ann. §31(d)(1) by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Working under the
direction of the Chief Justice, the Clerk is primarily charged with operating
the day to day functions of the Clerk's Office. The Clerk is responsible for the supervision of the professional
and non-professional staff in the Clerk's Office, the administration and
management of the appellate case processing of the Supreme Court, and the
planning and implementation of new, emerging and changing technological
developments in the case processing arena.
In fulfilling the Office's mandate, the Clerk
coordinates services with other courts, agencies and outside vendors as they
relate to the efficient operation of the Clerk's Office and renders assistance
in the preparation of the annual budget of the Virgin Islands Judiciary and
forecasting the needs of the Supreme Court's business. The Clerk provides assistance to the Chief
Justice, other courts in the judiciary, territorial government agencies,
members of the Virgin Islands Bar and the citizens of the Territory and serves
as the Secretary to the Judicial Council.

The Clerk's Office accepts documents for
filing with the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands pursuant to the Rules of

The Deputy Clerks and other staff provide assistance on procedural issues
to attorneys, litigants and the public through written communications, phone
and office consultations.

Record Keeping
The Clerk's Office is the
repository for all appellate documents filed with the Supreme Court of the
Virgin Islands. The Clerk's Office
maintains the Court's case files and case dockets and prepares and issues Court
Orders. The Clerk carefully monitors
all matters to ensure compliance with appropriate statutes, Court Rules, Court
Orders and Court procedures. Pursuant to a Rule or an Order of the Supreme
Court, the Clerk may entertain and dispose of specified types of procedural
motions which are ministerial in nature, relate to the preparation or printing
of the appendix and briefs on appeal, or relate to calendar control. To check
the status of a case on appeal, you are encouraged to call the Clerk's office.
Calendaring of Appellate Matters
The
Clerk oversees the scheduling, preparation and coordination of the Supreme
Court Calendars. The Clerk, or a
designee of the Clerk, is required to attend all sessions of the Court and make
arrangements for courtrooms and other facilities. All of the Court's calendars are available in the calendar section

Opinions
The
Clerk's Office coordinates the publication of all opinions and the circulation
